FAQs
Does acupuncture hurt?
Not usually. The needles are very thin - about the width of a human hair. Most people feel little to no pain. You might feel a slight pinch, pressure, tingling, or a dull ache, but it is generally very tolerable. Many people even find it relaxing.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner. Our practitioner has a Master’s degree in acupuncture and is a NCCAOM certified Diplomate of Acupuncture. The needles we use are sterile, single-use, and disposable. Side effects are rare and usually mild - such as slight bruising or soreness.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition. Acute conditions (such as a sprain) may improve within a few sessions. Chronic conditions may need more - often 6 to 12 treatments. We will discuss treatment plans at your initial consultation.
What can I expect during a session?
You will lie down in a relaxed position while the practitioner gently inserts the needles. They stay in for about 30 minutes while you rest. Many people feel calm or even fall asleep during the session.
What should I do before and after a session?
Before: Dress in loose, comfortable clothing. Eat a light meal.
After: Drink plenty of water, rest if possible, and avoid strenuous exercise right after your treatment.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Some insurance plans do cover acupuncture, especially for pain management. However, we do not accept insurance at this time. We can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. For any questions regarding insurance, please contact your insurance company.
